My essay "Confessions of a Former Good Girl" has been published in the Press Pause Moments anthology, which is full of stories of change: marriage, divorce,
widowhood, parenthood, infertility, sexuality, surviving abuse, medical
crises, careers and educational degrees.
"Confessions" details how I left my position at a university in 2005 to take a job with a small publishing company. Ironically, the anthology was published almost exactly a year after I had left that company and started freelancing full-time. Reading my essay is almost like reading the essay of an acquaintance. I recognize the author, but my life has changed to the point where I could not write that same piece today. This experience just proves how important it is to capture those snapshots of your life before they disappear.
Here's the "small world" part of this post:
Naomi Fujimoto, an editor of BeadStyle magazine and author of Cool Jewels, also has an essay in this collection. Two beading folks with essays in a non-beading publication. What are the odds? We decided to celebrate by blogging about this anthology on the same day. So check out Naomi's blog and grab a copy of the anthology to read her essay titled "Almost-40 Love." Naomi's essay begins, "I was an average tennis player the summer I met Kerry." Trust me, though, there's nothing average about this essay. It's beautifully written a story of love, loss, and tennis.
