Good books make me obnoxious. I giggle to myself and interrupt everyone I know with "Listen to this."
Too Many Cooks: Kitchen Adventures with 1 Mom, 4 Kids, and 102 Recipes had many must-be-read-aloud moments. My favorite one doesn't relate to food at all except that it occurs in a grocery store. The 3-year-old is belting out a song and a customer tells her that it's by The Beatles. And the 3-year-old corrects her: "It's by Paul McCartney and he wrote it for his wife, Linda." Then, probably afraid she may have hurt this perfectly nice woman's feelings, the child goes on to tell her that Paul McCartney did sing with The Beatles.
This book is a keeper because of the recipes. If you're already a cook, you'll probably disagree, finding the recipes too simple. But for me, they were perfect. Seeing how simple it is to make something like Quick Lemon Sorbet or Sesame Broccoli let me see that I could easily change recipes to suit my mood or ingredients. I started marking the recipes I wanted to try with Post-It notes. But then it became ridiculous. Ridiculous = book you must own.
