This year I grew my own pumpkin for Halloween. For all you would-be gardeners, it's very easy to do:
- Clear the weeds from a sunny patch of yard. Ideally, this would be a location near the border between you and a neighbor, so they can see that you are a conscientious homeowner, at least occasionally.
- Plant 4 starter pumpkin plants from the local nursery.
- Water diligently for the first few weeks.
- Forget to water. Have an exceptionally rainy summer instead.
- Remember to weed several months later. Be surprised that there are flowers on two of the pumpkin plants.
- For once, pay attention to the weather forecast and pick the only pumpkin that's been growing all this time under the weeds. Feel sad that it's still green. Place on kitchen countertop and watch it turn a beautiful orange.
- Show off photos of the pumpkin like any proud mama. Have you ever seen anything so beautiful in your life?
