Welcome to the Mostly Metal Blog Hop! This challenge started when I bought a huge Muse kit from B'Sue Boutiques. I had no idea what would be in the package from B'Sue, so it was great fun to dig through the treasures and create three different challenge kits. Plus, every single person in the challenge received one unique item that no one else in the challenge received. (You can read more about the kits in my earlier post.)
Seventeen brave (and very talented!) designers chose one of the kits. The first three designs are posted here; there are links to the others near the end of this post. We have a great mix of very experienced designers and first-timer blog hoppers. I hope you'll find these designs as inspiring as I do!

When I was packing up the Antique Brass Romantic kits for shipping, I
noticed that one of them was missing the flower pendant. That's the kit
I used. (I have no doubt that pendant will show up now that the challenge is over!)
I sewed the green Sari ribbon around some fusible web to make the ribbon more substantial. I used Terrifically Tacky Tape to adhere the ribbon to the barrette. (By the way, that stuff is super sticky! No changing your mind after it's placed!)
To make the flower, I peyote-stitched around the pink cabochon and glued it to a dark red paper flower. I placed the filigree bead caps on top of the amethyst rounds for added decoration. I slightly domed the leaf pendants, although it's hard to tell from the photo.
I did not use the pale green glass beads in this kit. Instead, I chose the amethyst from my stash. I'm calling this "hair jewelry" so it still meets the challenge requirements of being jewelry. I was surprised at how much I liked this color combination. I would have never chosen it on my own.

The components I used from the Antique Brass Romantic kit were the beautiful silk ribbon, the "oui" charm, the
embossed heart charms, beautiful amethyst bicone crystals, and "Property
of...hands off!" metal tag.
I really liked the size of the tag, but
didn't care for the sentiment. It isn't in keeping with my style. So I
turned it on its side, punched a second hole on what used to be the
bottom, and covered up the words with two copper flowers.
I added
little pearls to the centers of the flowers, and a clear rhinestone to
the center of the embossed heart, and played around with various bits of
chain, until I found a layout that pleased me. I added the second bit
of chain between the two large round pieces, as I wanted it to drape
nicely between them, and to hang down just a bit over the focal piece,
which used to be the "hands off" tag.
What you can't see is that the
necklace is closed with an antiqued brass lobster claw closure, and I
added extra chain at the back, with an amethyst crystal at the end. This was a joy to make!

I used everything in my Gunmetal Love kit except for the large silver heart and the red cording. It was a fun challenge! From my own stash, I included: gunmetal jump rings, eye pins, head pins, chain scraps, Lucite flowers, and two colors of crystal bicones. See more of my work at: www.pureblissjewelry.com

Next Challenge . . .
Would you like to participate in the next jewelry design challenge? I'm hosting one challenge each season. (This was the summer challenge.) I'll reveal the fall challenge kit on September 2. The materials will be different than the ones in this challenge. (The blog hop date will be in early October, after Lori Anderson's Bead Soup finishes.)
. . . and a Giveaway!
The prize: I'm giving away ONE fall challenge kit to a random reader. If you win, I'd love it if you participated in the next blog hop with all the other designers, but it's not required.
Who can enter: Giveaway is open to everyone.
How to enter: Please leave a comment on ANY of the participating "Mostly Metal Challenge" blog posts to win! Each comment (one per blog post) will get you an entry into the random drawing. Comments need to be in by Sunday, August 28, 2011 at midnight Mountain Time. (And if you want to comment, but don't want to be entered, that's OK, too. I'm sure the designers would still love to hear from you!) Winner will be announced September 2, 2011. Good luck!
