Recently I made this personalized tombstone place card or decoration. It's metal and can be customized with a hand-stamped message. I thought it would be fun for Halloween or birthday parties. (My sample reads: "RIP Jim's Youth - Happy 40th.") Cute, right?
I took a few initial photos. While the photos were sharp and clear, they felt lacking in some way.
I realized that the perfect photo would needed a prop. A cupcake, to be specific. Yes, I bought a cupcake to use as a prop for the photo. Not just any cupcake, but a pumpkin cupcake. And a chocolate cupcake. I went into Butter Cream Cupcakery intending to buy only one cupcake, but as someone who has taken a lot of photos, I knew that it made logical sense to buy two. What if something happened to the first?
The Photo Shoot
The chocolate cupcake . . .
It was immediately clear once I started snapping photos that the chocolate cupcake had a little bit too much of a diva attitude. Look at me, look at me!
The pumpkin cupcake . . .
Much better! The orange pumpkin color adds a little brightness to the photo. Those sprinkles on top are not nearly as flirtatious as the chocolate chips.
P.S. Both tasted delicious.
