“You can never get a cup of tea large enough
or a book long enough to suit me.”? C.S. Lewis
This is one of those crazy weeks when I'd be hard pressed to tell you my name, let alone write a coherent blog post here: I'm working on edits for Stringing magazine, creating a project for Halcraft, working on a book review, writing a blog post for a magazine, designing steampunk jewelry for Allegory Gallery, and trying to keep the orders of Christmas cards, jewelry, and ornaments from my Etsy shop filled and shipped.
I hardly can complain. It's good to have work, especially work that I love. I am very lucky. At the same time, I'll be happy when most of the deadlines have passed after Friday and I have a little time to read. Here are books waiting for me on my nightstand:
- Fowl Weather by Bob Tarte. I picked up this book at the library based solely on the cover line: How thirty-nine animals and one sock monkey took over my life.
- Homeward Bound: Why Women Are Embracing the New Domesticity by Emily Matchar. There's a chapter on Etsy and the handmade culture that should be interesting.
- Made in America: An Informal History of the English Language in the United States by Bill Bryson. Just flipping through this, I learned that one of the early names for cranberries was bounceberries. Won't that be a handy tidbit to use during Thanksgiving?
- The American Way of Eating: Undercover at WalMart, Applebee's, Farm Fields, and the Dinner Table by Tracie McMillan. I heard the author talk awhile back; it will be good to see how this book compares to her talk.
Any books you'd recommend?
