I am not a knitter (yet), so it might surprise you that one of my very favorite blogs is The Yarn Harlot. As with many people whom I admire, I become absolutely tongue-tied trying to explain why she is so wonderful. Her blog is honest, funny, and wise. I've never met Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, but I suspect she is honest, funny, and wise in person. She writes the kind of blog that makes you think that she's a good friend of yours. Judging by the hundreds of comments her blog posts receive, I'm certain I'm not the only one who feels that way. If I need a laugh or I just need to someone to confirm that yes, the world is crazy, I take a moment to read Stephanie's blog. Here are just a few random samples:
"Denny, Rachel H and I made our way from Toronto to Oregon for SOAR,
and we knit the whole way. The only thing that security said was 'What
you're carrying is perfectly safe, but.. what is it' Answer, spinning
wheels, spindles, needles and yarn. Thanks for asking." (October 26, 2009)
"Edit: Okay. That's seriously the funniest thing ever. I put up a post about
how bad my math skills are and then do the math wrong. Man. When I say
I'm bad at something I don't screw around . . . Now I understand exactly what was happening that day that my grade 7
math teacher flipped right out on me when I was attempting to explain
my approach to division." (June 19, 2009)
"I'm really starting to believe that the dishwasher is toying with me.
One day it drains, the next it refuses. This seems to be related to how
many dishes are in it, and how much I don't want to wash them. I feel
that this is personal . . ." (March 11, 2009)
Thank you, Stephanie, for sitting down on January 23, 2004 and starting your Yarn Harlot blog. We needed it more than you could have imagined.
