I was delighted to be chosen for Chinook Jewelry's design team for May. (You can sign up on the website for future opportunities.) I love Mellisa's textured porcelain pendants and charms. Her sheet music designs are some of my favorites.
I made two projects with the two porcelain pieces Mellisa sent for this challenge. I'm
posting the first one today and will post the other next week.
This porcelain pendant is so dramatic that I knew I wanted to keep my design fairly simple. To create this necklace, I used Montana blue glass ovals, dark wooden cubes, brown faceted glass rondelles, tiny beige pearls, and a brass hook clasp. I love how the curves in the clasp mimic those in the porcelain pendant.
I created the bail for the pendant out of a simple strand of those new peanut-shaped seed beads. I love how those beads twist together.
Now for a Confession . . .
I put this design together while watching TV. It wasn't until I took these photos that I noticed that the seed beads have a metallic reddish tinge to them. I thought they were a plain, dark brown. I have an Ott-Light near the sofa where I bead, but I didn't bother to turn it on. Oops! Of course, this is just a confession between friends. If I was asked about this by an art critic or editor, maybe I could convince him or her that I made this color choice for "artistic" reasons.
Next week, I'll show the bracelet I created with a porcelain 4-hole bracelet link from Chinook Jewelry.
Have a great holiday weekend!
