It's easy to find beauty on vacation or in a place that's designed to be beautiful like a museum. It can be tougher to uncover beauty in your ordinary life, but not impossible. Slow down and look closely. Here are some of the everyday lovelies in my life:
I really like latte art. One of the local coffeehouses I visit always draws a leaf on my coffee. It never fails to make me smile. (This image is a public domain photo, not my own. I never remember to take my camera to the coffeehouse!) |
This is definitely a case of "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I know that some of the letters are rubbed off and there is dust (and cookie crumbs) between the keys, but to me this keyboard is beautiful for what it represents: infinite possibilities! |
I often place my finished jewelry on my desk to remind myself to list it for sale in my shop. Sometimes the piece (like this silver flower ring) sits for quite awhile among the to-do lists, calendars, and pens, as I contemplate keeping a little wearable beauty for myself. |
This little bird sits on a bookshelf near my desk. My shelves are so crammed with books that this is one of the few non-book items in that space. I love that the painted wood is crackled. Beauty doesn't mean perfection. |
I love seeing all the roses in bloom in my yard, even if it's just a glimpse on my way out of the house. |
I often bead in the evening. Colorful, handmade beads are little works of art all by themselves, even if they never graduate into a finished piece of jewelry. (These handmade porcelain beads are a recent purchase from Marsha Neal Studio.) |
Office supply stores are dangerous places for me and my wallet. I recently splurged and bought this set of multicolored Sharpie permanent markers after admiring them for several months. Some days my stained ink fingers are the most colorful part of my outfit! |
Rather than throwing away dead flowers, I bring them into my studio as props for photography. Even without their bright colors, they're still beautiful—at least until they start to fall part and leave little brown bits all over the table and the floor. (It's okay—my red vacuum cleaner is beautiful in its own sleek way.) |
What are some of the beautiful things in your day?
