“Seize the moment. Remember all those women on the 'Titanic' who waved off the dessert cart.”
? Erma Bombeck
New things keep your creativity fresh. I love trying new things, although more often than not, the "things" are new-to-me foods.
Last week I had my first French macaroons ever. I bought them because they were so pretty in their sweet pastel shades. They're a bit larger than a U.S. quarter, but still small enough that after you eat one, you might want a second. The top and bottom cookies have a thin, crispy outer shell, but the insides are soft and chewy. The fillings matched the colors of the cookies: raspberry, pistachio, almond. They were so good that it's tempting to eat one for breakfast. (That only happened once, I swear.)
Maybe now that I've eaten these I'll be inspired to make a pastel necklace, sweet flower cards, or one of these macaroon recipes from Martha Stewart. Or maybe I'll be inspired to create something that's the polar opposite. A black leather biker desk accessory set? A cement statue of a robot? You never know.
Let today be the day to try something new.
Quotation source: Goodreads. This quote is very popular and is easily found in a number of sources. I also found this version of the quote: "Just think of all those women on the Titanic who said, "No, thank you" to dessert that night. And for what?!" That one is attributed to Woman's Day, Nov. 13, 2007.
See my recent post "A Cure for Artist's Block" for more on the topic of keeping your creativity fresh.
