Yesterday I had a guest post on the Beading Daily website
that I used to edit. It was the first time I'd written for the site since August, so it was both exciting and a bit nerve-wracking. A few readers wrote nice comments, which I really appreciated.
A Jewelry Do-Over
My post was based on an article I wrote for the upcoming spring issue of Stringing magazine. For the article, I asked designers Andrew Thornton, Danielle Fox (editor of Stringing), Molly Schaller, and Denise Yzebak Moore to pull out an old piece from their jewelry collection and remake it into something new. They did an amazing job and were all fabulous to work with.
In the post, I showed one of my own "makeover" pieces, a bracelet that I remade into a necklace. The bracelet-turned-necklace uses beautiful handmade polymer clay beads from Humblebeads, gunmetal chain from Rings & Things, vintage Lucite from The Beadin' Path, pewter rounds from Green Girl Studios, an enamel clasp from C-Koop Beads and a silver "change" charm from Springall Adventures. I love how it turned out and I have a feeling I'll wear it a lot—as soon as I get it back from Stringing!
A Life Do-Over
If you like the idea of do-overs, you might check out the book Do-Over!
by Robin Hemley. In this true story, a 48-year-old father decides to redo several aspects of his life from kindergarten to summer camp. I liked the kindergarten chapter best, especially the part where the other students want to know why his wife, not his mother, drove him to class. This book fascinated me, probably because it's the kind of thing I would never do!
