"Talking like a pirate will infuse
your everyday conversations
with romance and danger."
—Dave Barry
Talk Like a Pirate Day is this week: September 19th, to be exact. Ever since I saw the Real Pirates exhibit at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, I've wanted to make something for this holiday. The touring exhibit is put together by National Geographic. (I think the exhibit is currently in Kansas City, but I'm not positive, since they don't list the year.)
Here's one fact I learned: pirates had strict rules about sharing everything equally. If they found a necklace, they would actually cut it up into equal pieces so everyone would have a share. As a jewelry designer, that made my jaw drop!
My Pirate Necklace has a hand stamped silver-plated disc (the secret message is on the back!), a pirate flag charm (complete with a skull and crossbones), and a few small gold pearls. (What would a pirate necklace be without treasure?)
See more photos of my Pirate Necklace in my shop. You can also learn more about the origins of Talk Like a Pirate Day at the official site.
