One evening recently I heard some thumping outside. It sounded like something was hitting the house. I thought it might be some kids, since sometimes they play near the back of the house. Then I saw something large pass in front of the window. I cautiously pulled back the curtains and saw this:
Our local gardening center makes a big deal about pointing out plants that are "deer-resistant." I always thought that was silly. We live in a populated area with lots of traffic. We're not in the mountains or near any wooded areas. I was never going to see a deer.
I stand corrected.
The deer sat outside our window for about a half hour and munched on some grass. Then something startled him and he took off towards the other side of the neighborhood.
P.S. When I went outside the next day, I found our "deer-resistant" butterfly bush missing a big chunk out of the side. Hmmmm . . .
