If you're at all familiar with my jewelry designs, you probably already know how much I love flowers. In fact, when I was working on Unexpected Findings, I had to ask some of the contributing designers to hold back on floral components. My jewelry designs had so many flowers that I wanted to make sure we didn't end up with a flowers-only book!
So when it came time to make a spring design for Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft, I naturally had to make a flower-themed jewelry set.
Inspiration
My inspiration behind this daisy jewelry:
- Round beads are inexpensive and plentiful; you can find strands for a few dollars almost anywhere. The challenge is creating something other than a boring strand of beads.
- Flowers are showing up in spring 2015 fashion and home decor items. These aren't your dainty flowers of past years; the bigger, the better!
- My designs usually include some texture for contrast. In this case, I chose wire coil beads as a contrast to the smooth rounds.
- I also made not-quite-typical use of a jewelry finding, the bead frame. Normally you would string a single strand of beads through the center of the bead frame. Instead, the round bead frames hold the daisy in place. The holes in the bead frames (used only in the necklace) give you extra places to string the wire, but you could also use just plain, large silver rings instead if you can't find the bead frames.
