It's always fun to find another way to use beads besides making jewelry. Napkin rings are a favorite of mine. I've made them for everyday use and Christmas, but this is the first Halloween napkin ring I remember making.
Materials
You'll need black craft wire, hematite rondelles, hematite rings, and purple rounds to make the version shown here. I liked the smaller (5mm) rondelles because it let me make a more precise letter shape than larger rounds. I chose 20-gauge wire because it is fairly stiff and holds the shape well. If you find the 20-gauge craft wire too hard to handle, try a smaller gauge like 22. If you choose a thicker wire like 18-gauge, be sure to test it on a few beads to make sure it will fit through the bead holes.
Variations and Tips
Of course, you can mix things up and put your own personal twist on this project.
- To make an every spookier version of this project, use paint to turn the round purple beads into eyeballs. A little dot of white and black is all it takes!
- It would be fun to make personalized napkin rings with a single initial for each of your guests.
- If you're going to attempt to spell anything longer than 3 letters, consider printing or writing it out on paper as reference. When you're concentrating on bending wire, it's easy to miss a letter!
- You could also easily change up the colors such as a mix of orange and brown for Thanksgiving or red and green for Christmas.
