June Pretty Palettes Challenge
This month's challenge was all about summer! I chose two packages of Bead Gallery Beads from Michaels:
- one package of assorted seed beads in two sizes and mint, aqua, and teal colors (10472415)
- one package of silver-plated sand dollars (10393695)
The holes of the tiny seed beads were too small for cord, so I used WildFire beading thread to create the seed bead loops. I glued the two sand dollar halves together so that they perfectly hid the thread ends inside and give a professional finish to the earrings.
Three Variation Ideas
These simple earrings are easy to customize. Here are three ideas:
Variation 1
Each seed bead strand in the original measures about 4" long full extended. (When looped, they're about 2" in length.) You could easily cut this length in half in order to make another pair of earrings out of the same package of seed beads.
Variation 2
I left the original silver sand dollars plain, but it would be fun to dab a little teal or aqua metal paint on the sand dollar. Wipe off the excess paint so that the color remains in the recessed sections of the bead. If the metal paint is not self-sealing, you'll want to add a protective clear coat of paint on top.
Variation 3
Another option for the sand dollar beads is to string seed beads through the holes. The smaller seed beads are the perfect size. You could even do different colors on the back of the earring. The thread will be neatly hidden inside the two sand dollar beads.
Hope you're having a wonderful summer!
