A couple of weeks ago, I ordered my first piece of semi-custom jewelry. I'd first seen Sherri's micro macrame work at least a year ago. Recently, she posted on an online forum (not an ad, just a friendly forum post) and I immediately clicked on her shop link (SS10001) in her signature.
I loved the dragon bracelets in the "Sold" section. (Shopping tip: I always look at the "sold" section in Etsy shops. That shows me what someone's specialty is and whether they make one-of-a-kind items or will create duplicates.)
My main concern about the bracelet was size. I have a ridiculously small wrist, which means I almost never can buy bracelets. (In fact, this was the reason I started designing jewelry in the first placeāso that I could have something to wear!) Sherri wasn't sure if she would be able to make that same bracelet in the small size I needed, but she was willing to try and make adjustments.
I was floored by how quickly she responded. She even took a picture of the bracelet on her own wrist so I could see how it looked on.
I'm working on setting up my own online jewelry shop and have been thinking about custom orders. Will I do them? I haven't decided yet. But from a customer's perspective, it seems like a good thing. I felt pretty special, getting a "sold out" bracelet that fit me exactly. Who wouldn't want to feel like that?
