It's hard to believe that a quarter of 2010 is over. I suppose that's the advantage—or maybe disadvantage—of working on a year-long project like the Bead Journal Project. I do feel more conscious of the passage of time.
Here's my February square:
I like the bead embroidered heart I added. I feel like I'm slowly becoming more adventurous in my designs. (You can see my January square, which just had a word, no designs.)
Here's the square for March:
I was torn between the word "plan" and "plant" for March. "Plan" seems so orderly and logical, while "plant" is more organic and not so controlling. My idea was to highlight both words. I used size 11 beads for the word and then "planted" a few size 15 beads under "plan."
For January and February, I used size 15 beads for the writing and I think I'll go back to that. The smaller beads make the wording more delicate and easier to read.
The word "plant" is an unusual choice for the month, given that in the natural world, March is too early for planting. (We might get snow as late as May.) But it seems to fit my activity for March. Lots of planning and planting of seeds that will hopefully bloom later this year.
I'm still not sure what my word is for April. Originally, I had planned to create these squares at the beginning of the month, so the word could be a mantra for me. Instead, it's become more like a journal or scrapbook, where I'm choosing a word after most of the month is over. So I guess I'll wait a week or two and see what happened this month!
