I feel like it's been years since my last good idea.
Have you ever felt that way? I think it's because all the work I've been doing lately is either reworking old ideas of mine (rewriting an old short story, for example) or working on articles with assigned topics. (A flurry of rejections for some recent queries hasn't helped.)
A week ago I came across this quote:
The best way to have a good idea is to have lots of ideas.
—Linus Pauling
This is so true. Did you know that Ray Bradbury wrote a story a week? No wonder he's written so many memorable ones. I also know that Fund for Writers editor C. Hope Clark writes about "keeping 13 in play," meaning that she always has a certain number of pieces circulating for possible publication.
So I've decided I need to take a brainstorming day. A cup of coffee, a notebook and pen, and as many ideas as I can possibly think of. Maybe a walk or drive, since movement always seems to get me thinking. Quantity will be key. I'll worry about quality another day.
