I attended the Rocky Mountain Bead Society show in Denver on Sunday. This is one of my favorite bead shows, probably because it features many of my favorite vendors and it feels like a fun family reunion. In between shopping, I got to catch up with Kristal Wick, Jamie Hogsett, Andrew Thornton, and Lisa Kan.
Here are a few treasures I picked up:
I'm making a bracelet to swap with a beader who loves purple. I really liked these vintage Lucite beads I found at Trinkets by T. A great shade of purple and an unusual shape. |
This beautiful lampworked flower is from Lisa Kan's new botanical collection. Of all the colors available, can you believe I chose the orange one? The color reminds me of California poppies. I've already started sketching possible designs. There's a beautiful story behind Lisa's decision to make this new line. The plum blossom is a symbol of "resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity." |
I bought a few enameled items from C-Koop. I always find it hard to make decisions at her booth. In an ideal world, I'd be able to get at least one of everything! |
Of course, I came away with some treasures from Green Girl
Studios. That bird clasp in front is my absolute favorite clasp design. I
have at least two necklaces and a bracelet
that already use this same clasp in different finishes. (As I'm writing that statement, I realize that it makes me sound unimaginative to use the same items repeatedly. But this clasp is one of those magical elements that looks fresh and new in every design.) Notice that I have at least two of certain designs so I can make earrings. (I flipped one of them over so you can see the designs on the back.) |
My last stop was Beyond Beadery where I bought some brass cuff blanks and cube seed beads. One of the cuffs will become a bead embroidered bracelet, something I've always wanted to make. | |
