I received my first fruit package from the local CSA (Community Sponsored Agriculture) program this week. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with several pounds of apricots yet, but I need to decide soon since they are very, very ripe. (I'm tempted by this Fresh Apricot Crisp, but not sure if I want to turn on the oven when it's close to 100 degrees outside.)
Watermelon Earrings
Speaking of fruit, I recently made these Watermelon Earrings using handmade porcelain charms by Marsha Neal Studio. They are light green and subtly striped with a couple of dots. (Don't those dots look like seeds?) I paired the green charms with rose quartz rounds and sterling silver ear wires to create sweet, pastel earrings.
Working with Color
If you're a jewelry designer, you might try this color trick in your next design. Pick a challenging color pair (like red and green or blue and orange) and put a twist on it. Lighten up the colors to pastel shades as I've done here or darken them (think burgundy with forest green). You might be surprised at how much that simple trick changes your mind about working certain colors.
