Fall officially begins September 22 this year, but fashion is always a step ahead. (And Starbucks. Have you had your pumpkin spice latte yet?)
DIY jewelry magazines such as Jewelry Stringing are no different than fashion magazines. It takes time to shop for materials and make the jewelry you'll want to wear when fall is in full swing. Here's what you can look forward to:
Southwest Style
Colorado is a hard-to-categorize state. I've seen it described as being in the West, Central, Midwest, and Southwest part of the U.S. I've always thought it belonged in the West, but I think that's at least in part to how it feels to live here. There are cowboys and horses and rodeos ... everything that I think of as Western. That's probably why I'm drawn to Western and Southwestern jewelry styles, which are traditionally full of silver, turquoise, red, and leather.
I'm pleased to have a leather cuff bracelet project featured in the Southwest Style section of this magazine. The bracelet is easy to customize with your own color palette and style. It uses waxed linen cord to attach the beads to the leather band. I love this cord because it doesn't fray, the knots remain tight, and it comes in dozens of colors. I used small (2-4mm) beads in red and black, turquoise lentils, and a darling silver-plated flower cap from B'Sue Boutiques. (This flower is one of my favorite little findings. You might recognize them from my bracelet and earrings in the Winter 2015 issue.)
More Fall Trends
Not a fan of southwest jewelry? The Fall 2016 issue of Jewelry Stringing also features the trends of rose gold, mixed media, and prairie chic, along with 150+ of the best new beading supplies.
In addition to the leather bracelet, I have a chain bracelet (#6 on page 42) and two pairs of earrings (#14 and #16 on page 53) in this issue, one of which is featured on the table of contents page. Can you tell that fall is my favorite jewelry design season?
