We've been having some absolutely beautiful fall weather in Colorado. Some years it goes from summer to winter in an instant, so I'm trying to remember to get outside when I can. I've been collecting a lot of beautiful leaves from the sidewalks.
On My Work (Art) Table
One of the places I buy jump rings recently went out of business, so I've been looking at other alternatives. No one seems to have the exact same size and gauge combination, so I'll have to decide whether to go with slightly smaller/larger rings that are thicker/narrower.
I also bought myself a very small self-healing cutting mat. This is one of those common tools that I thought I already owned, but didn't. I'm going to see if it helps with cutting the felt I'm using to back some metal ornaments.
In the Kitchen
I enjoyed some lasanga soup recently. I didn't follow a recipe, but this one which claims to be "the original" looks pretty close to what I did. I used ground turkey instead of sausage and mini shell pasta since that's what I had on hand. What I'm Reading Now
I liked The Puzzler by A.J. Jacobs more than I expected. He talks to experts in addition to relaying his own experience, so I picked up some good tips on things like sorting puzzle pieces.
I also picked up a stack of Art Deco books from the library to see if that's a design style I want to play with. One book specifically covers Art Deco Mailboxes. I hadn't really thought about it until I saw this book, but I have seen a lot of fancy mailboxes in older hotels back when I used to go to conferences.
On My Library Hold List
I have several books on hold, including How to Draw Adorable by children's book illustrator Carlianne Tipsey. My library lists this book in the children's section.
Art I Admired
I don't think I could live happily in a place with patterns on every surface, but I admire the single-mindedness of Mr. Doodle and his completely doodled house.
The oldest street artist/yarn-bomber in the world is 104-year-old Grace Brett. Look at that telephone booth! [photo]
Made Me Laugh
This wild librarian cartoon by Tom Gauld showed up in my social media recently. Of course that trick would never work on me, right?! [photo]
A Crafty Tutorial I Saved
I'm always interested in ways to use random beads since I always have some leftover from various projects. This bead embroidered ornament seems like a fun way to use them!
New in the Shop
My Society 6 shop has some fall designs such as the Autumn Oak Leaves pattern on the coasters below. I made this design based on one of the real leaves that I picked up.See you in November!
