"Change in all things is sweet."
—Aristotle
Since I like making earrings best, that section of my shop is always
fully stocked. In contrast, the necklace section can get a little thin. To remedy that, I've been converting some of my earrings into necklaces.
Like many good ideas, this one came from my customers. Two different customers liked different pairs of earrings in my shop and asked if I had a similar necklace. In one case (the rulers shown here), the customer wanted two necklaces, so that worked perfectly. For the second one, the customer only wanted a single necklace, but I quickly sold the other to someone else.
Now I'm taking a close look at some of my earrings to see if they would be good candidates for a transformation.
While almost any earring might make a cute necklace, here are a few types that might work especially well:
- Highly detailed
It's easier to read the words and admire some of the details on a pendant than on a pair of earrings such as in the believe/inspire set below.
- Wide, rectangular earrings
As earrings, this shape does not flatter all face types, but can be perfectly fine as a pendant. My cow necklace (formerly earrings) is a good example. - Extra long or large earrings
Just because large earrings are trendy doesn't mean that all your customers prefer them. - Non-matching earrings
I love non-matching earrings, but I realize that they have a more limited audience than traditionally matched pairs. - Popularity
If a design is popular in one form, it might be popular in another. Some customers do like matching jewelry sets. (You don't need to make earrings or necklaces—you could do both!) - Weight
Are your earrings too heavy to be comfortable? Not everyone will agree on the exact weight for earrings; what you might think is fine might be too heavy for someone else.
