This week I finally had time to sort through my glass bead drawer. You may remember from the comments on my earlier organization post that I sort my beads according to type: ceramic, glass, metal, wood, etc. My glass bead drawer, however, is overflowing. I need to divide it into two drawers so I can find the beads I need more easily.
I dumped out all my glass beads (carefully!) and started sorting. My initial thought was to sort by color, which is a very popular option among beaders. Soon I realized that this was not going to work. I buy blue beads. Aquamarine. Navy. Teal. Sky blue. Turquoise. Azure. Indigo.
In contrast, here's my entire orange glass bead collection:

That's not really a big surprise. I've written before how orange terrifies me.
What was surprising is that I have no red glass beads at all. Here I am, dreaming up cute holiday earring ideas and I'm missing a key holiday color. (My green glass bead collection is marginally better.) This is where the "red" in my post title comes in. I'm so embarrassed! I'm always encouraging beaders to get away from their comfort zone, particularly in terms of colors, and look at me. This is definitely a case of "do as I say, not as I do." I'm betting that if I sort my beads by color I'll be much likelier to try new colors. Maybe I'll even stop buying so many blue beads.
