Earlier this year I launched a free creativity class. This was one of my favorite projects in 2023, so I wanted to dive in with more details before the year's end and encourage anyone who's interested to sign up!
About This Class
The Promptly Creative class contains three lessons that are automatically delivered to your email index in just over one week.
Each lesson contains a real creative prompt or theme that I'd received from a company or magazine back when I was creating how-to content in the jewelry world. In the emails, I share one of my own projects that I made with the prompt, as well as a number of suggestions and tips for coming up with your own idea for a project. (There are no step-by-step instructions for making a specific project; you can make whatever you like!)
There are optional handouts for each lesson that you can download, plus recommended links that you can explore if you want to delve a bit deeper into the topic.
All lessons delivered by email, so you can read the lessons on your own schedule and keep them as long as you'd like.
Who's This Class For?
This class might be for you if you:
- feel creatively stuck and want some fresh inspiration
- want to work on your own project but need a push to get started
- feel overwhelmed by too many ideas and want some focus
- need to work around your own schedule
- want to work at your own pace
While my own project examples are all jewelry or bead related, the prompts are broad enough that they should work for a wide range of creative activities: knitting, crochet, pottery, painting, quilting, baking ...
There is no video, chat, or forum included with the class, so you'd need to feel comfortable working on your own. (Or maybe sign up with a group of friends and work together!)
Why is it Free?
Some people are suspicious of free offerings, so in the spirit of total transparency, I'll share a little about why I created this class and why it's free.
I developed this class to build an entry-level bridge for artists or other people who are seeking opportunities to move from just designing for themselves to making artwork for others whether for an art director, magazine editor, shop owner, or retail customer. While I'm not offering any specific contacts of those who can buy your art (the real examples I use are from companies no longer in business), the skill of being able to use an outside prompt to both develop work that stays true to your own artistic style and meets your client's needs is one of lasting value.
For me personally, creating this class gave me practice in creating course content and experimenting with an automatic delivery method. I wanted to see if teaching might be something I want to explore in depth in the future. A short, free class was an ideal way for me to test my skills and also see how interested students might be in future classes.
You will not be asked to buy anything at the end of the class. (It's common to offer a short free class in order to entice buyers to shell out for a longer, expensive version, but this is not that!) Yes, if you take this class you will be signed up for a few future update emails from me (about 4 times a year), but honestly, you are free to unsubscribe after the last lesson. No hard feelings! It's more difficult to get seen on social media these days, so an email makes it possible to stay in touch with the people who do want to hear from me.
What's Next?
I hope you'll sign up for the free Promptly Creative class if it sounds like a good fit for you!
If you have suggestions for a topic you'd like me to cover in a future class, feel free to reach out. Happy New Year!
